Skin Surveillance

When an employee is repeatedly exposed to certain substances or skin irritants, this can result in dermatitis.  It should also be noted that Solvents can increase the damage caused by other sensitisers.

If detected early enough and corrective action taken, the problem can be reduced or completely resolved.  If, however, the condition is left untreated then the dermatitis can become irreversible and further exposure to even a small amount of the problem substance can trigger an adverse reaction.

Individuals who will require inclusion in a screening programme are those exposed to substances that can cause Occupational Dermatitis such as:
  • Latex (even 'protective' latex gloves!!)
  • Rubber Chemicals
  • Epoxy Resins
  • Soaps & Cleaners
  • Metalworking Fluids
  • Cement
  • Wet Work
  • Enzymes
  • Wood

The Screening Process

Skin surveillance typically takes 15-20 minutes per person.  This includes a review of a detailed questionnaire (to be completed by each individual), the examination itself and advice on skin care.
